You shape it.
A healthy young tree with its early training done — roots settled, trunk on its way. Every cut from here is yours. Four species, always in stock.
The Shop
Living art, grown and trained by hand under Milton Chang. Bonsai Heirloom is more than trees — each collection is a different point of entry, whether you’re starting your first tree or tending the one you already keep.

The same Pescadero-grown tree, styled and potted by the nursery in a precision-made Melmac pot — ready the day it arrives. Your work begins at watering, not wiring.
03 — Signature Bonsai
Can't be scheduled. Can't be repeated.
Every listing here is a limited drop — from a $295 small bonsai to trees that run several thousand dollars, each finished in handmade Yixing ceramic. Sold-out pages stay up on purpose: every release keeps its own listing, photographed the season it dropped, so you can see how the same species changes from one year to the next.
Rare trees drop a few times a year. Our newsletter subscribers get access to them first — and, often, they are the only ones who get them. View the drop archive →
First claim goes to the list.
Shears and care tools chosen the way Milton chooses his own — quiet, considered, made to last. Accessories that are not just nice to look at, but also the tools you’ll reach for every season.
Hand-thrown from Yixing’s famed purple clay — unglazed, porous, and alive to the tree. It breathes with the roots, drinks in each watering, and deepens to a quiet patina over the years. Not a container, but a companion the tree grows into. Three series, oval throughout — with rectangular and a glazed finish new to Series 3.

One large, raised drainage hole plus four smaller holes set into the base — none on the sides. Unglazed.
Four small raised holes in the base — none on the sides — and the first series with a glazed option. Three versions in, this is the most functionally advanced pot we’ve made: the raised geometry holds moisture at the roots longer than standard drilled-in drainage, so the tree gets maximum hydration without ever sitting in a soaking pot.
The soil mix the nursery grows in, and the small things that keep a tree honest between seasons. This shelf is coming — until then, Milton shares what he actually uses.
These are the products Milton actually uses and mentions in his YouTube videos. We don’t sell most of them and aren’t paid to feature them.
